Carnival Cruises, the world’s largest brand with 26 “Fun Ships”, carries one in every eight of the world’s cruise passengers. Carnival’s Spirit, Splendor and Legend (no tipping, and local tastes in entertainment) sail from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, to the Pacific islands with occasional cruises to Hawaii and Singapore. From October 2020 Carnival Spirit sails from the new Brisbane International Cruise Terminal. Carnival Legend arrives in Sydney mid-2021. Three Carnival ships sail the US west coast, and 18 ships cruise exclusively the Caribbean. All US-based cruises are 3- to 8-nights, offering short breaks where water sports and “Fun Ship” activities are the attractions. The only Carnival ship to visit Europe is Carnival Legend, in mid-2020. Carnival ships with their “whale’s tail” funnels are all-American – exciting, noisy, and organised fun. Children (2-5, 6-8, and 9-11) in the Camp Carnival program enjoy over 200 different games and supervised activities. Circle “C” caters for 12-14 years and Club 02 cater for teenagers. Features of all ships include Carnival Waterworks, Green Thunder Waterslide, and Dr Seuss at Sea activities. Adults have their own sunbathing area. Parents can have a night off once per voyage, where for a small fee children are supervised past midnight. Main dining is a social occasion. A Carnival cruise is a week of FUN. Reserved dining at alternative restaurants offers refined cuisine. Show lounges deliver Las Vegas-style entertainment. Outside Australia a USD13.99pp daily tip (suites USD15.99) is charged automatically, or can be pre-paid. Smoking is permitted on Carnival ships ONLY in specified areas.
