Life aboard Seabourn Pride
Seabourn Pride sails the Baltic Sea until moving to UK waters in September 2013 and then on to the warmer Mediterranean in October. A special cruise in July 2013 approaches as close to the North Pole as any cruise ship can venture! During early 2014 Seabourn Pride runs 7-night cruises of the Eastern and Southern Caribbean. Itineraries are carefully designed for the experiences they offer. Many ports visited are inaccessible to larger vessels, and onshore tours are far from traditional tourist tracks.

Seabourn ships fill eight of the top ten “Best Small Ships” in Berlitz Guide for 2012. Seabourn Pride was recently refurbished in 2007. The crew knows all 208 passenger-guests by name and anticipates their every wish. This is a small ship where travellers meet and talk, are invited by officers to dine, and everyone is a welcomed guest. And the menus attract vacationing restaurateurs. Guests are international, upscale and well-traveled – this isn’t a ship for young children. Gratuities and beverages are included in the fare. The Seabourn line has won the prestigious International Five Star Diamond Award for the last 14 years.

Accommodation
All accommodation suites are of generous size, with outside views, and fitted with luxurious appointments – a spacious marble bathroom and tub, shower and large vanity, complimentary stocked bar, walk-in closet, and separate living area and bedroom. This accommodation is a haven to refresh oneself for the next day’s onshore activities. Personal attention extends from supplying fresh fruit and flowers daily, to canapés and newly-baked pastries on returning from a day ashore.

Pleasing touches in all suites include personalised stationary, plush bathrobes and slippers, fine toiletries, aromatherapy baths, and course-by-course in-cabin dining for all meals. French balconies with full-height sliding glass doors allow the sea breezes in. Six suites have a private balcony and full black-out window blinds. The nine price categories of staterooms suggest passengers select a suite lay-out that best suits their preferences. There are three elevators.

Food and Dining
Open seated dining in The Restaurant (formal or semi-formal) is a memorable experience, overseen by celebrity chef Charlie Palmer: award-winning cuisine, regional dishes, many items cooked to order, exotic foods and cheeses, accompanied at your table by ship’s officers. Breakfast and lunch menus are expansive. Condé Nast Traveler awarded Seabourn its Top Cruise Line Food award for three consecutive years to 2008. Seabourn has an all-inclusive complimentary beverage and no-gratuities policy.

The Veranda Café is the ship’s buffet, that also makes-to-order. Service, as with all dining venues, is excellent, to tables set with white linen indoors and out. For dinner the café morphs into avant-garde Restaurant 2, with each evening’s menu a theme surprise. Menus from the two Restaurants are displayed in the afternoon for guests to make their dining venue selections. The al fresco Sky Grill, overlooking the ship’s pool and wake, specialises in steak and seafood by evening candle light.

Entertainment
Passengers very much make their own entertainment over a leisurely meal and a good wine, chatting with newly-met friends (you’ll have your own list of all the passengers). The Magellan Lounge, sufficiently large to accommodate all guests, is the venue for small shows, cabaret acts, lectures, most social functions, and afternoon tea. A live band plays for dancing before dinner. Upstairs in The Club late-night drinkers also get to view mini-cabaret acts. There are a few musical shows, dancing, evening cocktails, good movies - and one evening the chefs creating a Fruit Flambe Under the Stars with dancing accompanied by The Navigators all-purpose band.

Some on-shore activities are included, other can be booked. During sea days most make their own fun, though one can join tour talks, cooking demos, bridge, a matinee movie, galley tour and so on. The ship is famed for its rear water sports platform, a fold-out marina used in port to alight onto Zodiacs, sailboats, windsurfers, snorkeling equipment, pedal boats and water skis. The award-winning Spa offers massages from ten exotic cultures, personally tailored fitness programs, and a beauty salon. Facilities include sauna and steam rooms, and gymnasium.
