Japan, China, Korea, South-East Asia (mainly Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam), the Philippines, Indonesia and India – offer a vast range of cultures, scenery, architecture and cuisine. On-shore tours may venture up rivers, or inland to archaeological treasures, nature reserves, remnants of colonial eras, world’s-most-modern-buildings, and tropical resorts. Soak up the serenity of Nagasaki, visit the commercial powerhouse of Shanghai, bargain in Hong Kong, see whole families on a motorcycle in Ho Chi Minh City, or visit the Grand Palace in Bangkok. Each country offers its unique specialities. Contrast Bali with Beijing, Mumbai with Malaysia, Sabah with Singapore.

Large cruise ships operate in specific regions, such as East/West Malaysia, ex-Australia to SE and E Asia, between Singapore and ports of China, and around the circuit of China/Japan and Korea. Indian ports are visited ex Dubai, and by cruises relocating between the Mediterranean and Far East. Vessels offer Western-style cruising along with superb Asian cuisines and now cater to the growing Asian travel market. Explorer vessels visit smaller ports, including the northern islands of Japan, the great Mekong River, and rarely-seen sights of Borneo and the Celebes (Indonesia).

Many ships sail the north-south route between Australia and SE Asia, calling at ports in Indonesia and Malaysia. Celebrity Millennium offers a variety of cruises in Asian waters from September through May each year. Princess Line has a high profile in Asia. Sun Princess regularly departs from Fremantle for SE Asia, and Sapphire Princess covers much of SE Asia and the Sub-Continent late in 2019. Many Asian cruises are sectors of World and Grand Cruises by Silver Whisper, Insignia, Amsterdam, Sapphire Princess, Queen Victoria and HAL ships. For luxury, sail with Seabourn Encore, Silver Muse, Silver Whisper, Azamara Journey, Nautica, and Regent Seven Seas ships. In September 2019 Ponant’s Le Laperouse makes a great discovery voyage out of Darwin via West New Guinea, Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia to Hong Kong. In the latter half of 2019 Pacific Dawn sails each way between Brisbane and Singapore. Pacific Eden and Pacific Jewel their last voyages for P&O Australia in March 2019 sailing from Fremantle to Singapore.
