Anguilla (“Eel”, formerly Snake Island due to its shape) is a Caribbean island in the British West Indies, at the northern tip of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles, 270 km due east of Puerto Rico. It is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK with a population around 14,000. The island is low-lying coral and limestone skirted by beaches, coral reefs, and smaller islands and cays. Anguilla’s economy based on tourism, and offshore banking and business – it is one of the many tax havens in the Caribbean.
