Metlakatla is the Tsimshian Indian village located on Annette Island close to the entrance to Misty Fjords in Alaska USA. It was founded as a model village by the Anglican missionary William Duncan in 1887 to house his Indian converts and today remains as a federal Indian Reservation. The fascinatingly furnished Duncan Museum, originally the house in which William Duncan once lived, and a replica of the original church that was destroyed by fire in 1948, are interesting historical reminders of the past.

There are many options on offer for visitors. Hike up Yellow Hill for picturesque viewing, inspect the profile of George Washington on Purple Mountain, appreciate the totem poles and totemic art, and be sure to watch the colourful and authentic tribal dancing exhibitions. It is also possible to spend an afternoon salmon fishing or simply enjoy the near-endless beaches.
