Cruises visiting Njari Island & all Njari Island cruises for  2019

View Njari Island 2019 cruises for 2 ships listing 2 cruises from Njari Island with today's best deals!

Njari Island is in the Solomon Island archipelago, to the east of Papua New Guinea. It is a small uninhabited 400m long teardrop that extends along shallow shoals to adjacent small islands. Three kilometres to the SE is the larger Gizo Island with settlements. Njari is a centre for world class diving. It has excellent snorkelling sites that encircle the island. The Solomon Islands are part of the Coral Triangle which has the highest marine and coral biodiversities in the world. There are about 500 species of corals.

By means of Zodiacs and a glass-bottomed boat, divers and viewers have a wonderful exposure to fish, corals, sea stars and crustaceans. Off the edge of the reef are larger fish such as barracuda, red bass and reef sharks. Walk around the coral cay and observe the diverse bird life. Hopefully you will have the services of a biologist lecture of the flora and fauna of the region to deepen your appreciation of nature. Visitors must surely contrast the peaceful paradise of Njari with the Solomons’ ethnic tensions from 1998 to 2006; and their knowledge or memories of the history of the Solomons during WWII, where some of the fiercest battles of the Pacific were fought.

Many dive sites are around Gizo Island to the south of Njari. Eight kilometres to the SE of Njari is the sunken Japanese transport ship Toa Maru, a popular dive site. In 2007 the epicentre of an earthquake of magnitude 8.1 was just 60 km to the SE of Njari. Eighteen kilometres to the west of Njari the shoreline of Ranongga Island was raised 70m to expose corals, and a tsunami swept the region. So, even in paradise, unexpected natural disasters are part of life.
