Just booking our next cruise to New Zealand with Russell Cameron now! Looking forward to trying a different cruise line, however have been very happy with Royal Caribbean. It's just that another cruise line has the itinerary I prefer."

Cruises visiting Porto Vecchio & all Porto Vecchio cruises for  2019-2020

Porto Vecchio is the southern-most port on the east coast of Corsica, France. A town built on ex-salt marshes, salt continues to play an important role, and if you visit in September watching the salt harvest is a truly intriguing experience. The town of Porto Vecchio has two distinct areas popular with visitors: the citadel and old town, and the marina. You will also discover numerous small villages and hamlets hidden quietly in the mountains. One of our favourite views along the coast is near the mountain village of Ospedale, followed perhaps by a stroll along the edges of the lake nearby, and a picnic in peaceful surroundings.

While there are interesting places to visit nearby such as Bonifacio and Sartene, the delightful beaches to the south of the town are the big attraction. Saint-Cyprien and Palombaggio are especially known for being child-friendly beaches. However, also very well worth exploring is the mountainous landscape behind Porto-Vecchio, with its craggy mountain tops, parasol pines, and small mountain lakes. Porto Vecchio itself has much to offer, such as the old town around the Place de Republique with fascinating old buildings lining narrow streets. With cafés and restaurants overlooking the harbour, the marina area is also well worth investigating.

The Church of Saint-John-the-Baptist was built in the 19th century and rather plain on the outside, but step inside to see the ornately decorated interior, then return to the Place de La Republique to visit one of the cafés in the square. There are lovely views from the defensive bastions, and the old town comes to life with music and entertainment during summer evenings, which is a good time to enjoy the town at its best. The marina area is very attractive, with plenty of cafés and restaurants overlooking the harbour.
