Izmir is located along the outlying waters of the Gulf of Izmir, by the eastern side of the Aegean Sea, part of Turkey's magnificent coastline that abounds in vast pristine beaches surrounded by olive groves, rocky crags and pine woods. Bari, situated on the Adriatic Sea, is the second most important economic centre of mainland Southern Italy, and is perhaps best known for being the city of Saint Nicholas.
