Tortola is the largest and most populated of the British Virgin Islands, a group of islands that forms part of the archipelago of the Virgin Islands. Marigot is the main town and capital in the French Collectivity of Saint Martin. St Martin comprises the northern 60% of a divided island in the Eastern Caribbean. (The southern 40% is Sint Maarten, of the Netherlands, and the only place where France borders the Netherlands.) St Martin lies at the northern tip of the Leeward Islands edging the Atlantic Ocean. Basseterre is located on the SW coast of St Kitts Island in the Leeward Islands group, and is one of the oldest towns in the Eastern Caribbean. Subsequently, it is very well known for its variety of architectural styles and fascinating buildings, set against dense tropical forests and a huge dormant volcano.
