Scenic Eclipse cruises for 2020

Scenic river cruises opened to ocean cruising with the “World’s First Discovery Yachts”: in August 2019 with Scenic Eclipse, and July 2020 with Scenic Eclipse II. The 17,085 GT vessels, with 228 guests (200 in polar regions) are built for polar exploration along with luxury on board. Until March 2020 Scenic Eclipse is based in Ushuaia at the southern tip of South America. Cruise of 11 nights explore the subantarctic islands and Antarctica peninsula near the Arctic Circle. Longer 19-night cruises visit the Falkland Islands and South Georgia. In mid 2020 during the northern summer Scenic Eclipse makes port-intensive cruises around the Mediterranean. Around June cruises in the culturally-rich Baltic include many smaller ports. Then From July to August reach the far north Arctic Norwegian island of Spitzbergen – to experience the midnight sun and hopefully see the aurora borealis. In August 2020 leave Iceland for four ports in Greenland, and a 20-night excursion through the Northwest Passage to Alaska. Scenic Eclipse will take you there in luxury. And Scenic Eclipse offers really unique itineraries.

Life aboard Scenic Eclipse

The sleek profile of this luxury super yacht is a draw-card. Her engineering is top-of-the-range: superb stabilisers, full back-up systems, no anchors, etc. The staff-to-guest ratio is close to 1:1. As everything (apart from helicopter and submarine excursions) is included, “leave your wallet at home.” During polar expeditions passenger numbers are (by law) limited to 200, allowing several landings per day for passengers, 100 at a time. The helicopters and submarine will allow passengers to get closer to the wildlife than by boat. The ability to dock in unique locations and smaller ports will showcase the wonder of each destination. Late night departures are part of the Scenic Eclipse experience.

Accommodation
Every stateroom is a true suite (bedroom separate from living area) with a generous balcony and full height sliding glass doors. With king bed, pillow menu, elegant furnishing and butler service to every suite, daily stocked mini-bar and 24-hour in-room dining, what more could a guest wish for? Ah, yes, a Bose sound system is included. Veranda suites (66) are 32m² in size and offer all the above features. Deluxe veranda suites (28) are 38m² and feature larger bedroom and living areas. The Spa suites (14) at 48m² have spa baths and offer space to relax and views from the veranda.

Panorama and Grand panorama suites (56m²) have a 43m² veranda terrace, and come with priority dining and shore excursions. The Owner's penthouse suites (125m²) at the bow of the yacht have a 60m² terrace. Combining the owner's penthouse suite with a spa suite will create a two-bedroom penthouse suite with an area of 233m², which offers the best of all facilities. These suites have outstanding forward views. There are no wheelchair accessible or solo suites.

Food and Dining
There are 10 dining options, all inclusive of a complete range of beverages, with no specialty dining charges. Cuisines include Italian, French and Japanese dining, and regional cuisines are featured. Elements is the larger dining venue with Italian and steak on the menus. Koko’s serves Asian fusion in a variety of smaller settings. Chef’s Table is a gastronomic adventure for just eight. The Teppanyaki grill offers private dining for just 10 guests. These formal dining venues are close together on the same deck as the main lobby and theatre.

On the deck above are the Azure Bar and Café, Lumière (a Contemporary French & Champagne bar for 44), and Epicure which offers cooking demonstrations led by the ship’s chefs. Casual meals are served at the Yacht Club adjacent to the indoor/outdoor pools. And all dining is available in one’s suite. Throughout the day specialty teas and coffees are available – perhaps as you sit in the Observatory overlooking the scenic view, or ono the Sun Terrace atop the ship. There’s also a late-night menu, along with included cocktails.

Entertainment
Entertainment will primarily be the excursions that take guests to inaccessible places: perhaps flying low over the dramatic crags of the Scottish Isles, the volcanic wonders of Italy, or the coral cays of the Caribbean. The submarine is custom-built for optimal sightseeing to rarely visited places such as the underwater ruins in Greece and Turkey, as well as kaleidoscopic coral reefs in the Caribbean. Through scuba diving guests can experience a variety of underwater wildlife and colourful coral reefs. Travellers can also enjoy shore excursions on Zodiacs and kayaks in the Arctic and Mediterranean seas. A mud room adjacent to the marinas enables guests to embark and disembark for their excursions quickly and easily.

Onboard entertainment in the 240-seat theatre includes performances, presentations, concerts, and movies. Lectures are presented by Discovery Team experts. In the lobby each evening enjoy live entertainment. There’s a library and of course free Internet connections. Activities include a complete range of spa, beauty and fitness facilities. And of course conversation after a day’s activities, over drinks in one of the lounges, with newly-made friendships, will take you deep into the night. It would seem that Scenic has thought of everything for their first venture into luxury ocean cruising.
