Life aboard Le Ponant
Currently Le Ponant is sailing the eastern Mediterranean. In early December 2019 there’s an interesting 9-night cruise from Turkey that takes in Israel (see Galilee), Alexandria and Sokhna (see the Pyramids), the Suez Canal, and Aqaba (see Petra the hidden city). A following 7-night cruise out of Aqaba will take you to Eilat (see the Dead Sea), and Safaga from where you can get to Luxor on the Nile (see the Valley of the Kings and Karnak Temple). Cruises from Aqaba continue through to March 2020. Le Ponant is for young-minded couples and singles in a sophisticated setting.

Ponant is an archaic French naval term for "West", the opposite of Levant. MY Le Ponant is a three-masted motorised sailing vessel, refitted in 2011, carrying just 64 passengers – a boutique discovery yacht that will take you in luxury to beautiful ports not accessed by large cruise vessels. Personalised service and an informal dress code assures guests of a refreshing cruise break. Though mainly French, fellow passengers will come from many backgrounds, and be young-minded, well-travelled and refined – conducive to making friends as you share on-shore experiences. You’ll find all amenities are modern, ample space for sun-bathing or solitude, no high-end entertainment, but assured good service and dining.

Accommodation
On the lower Marie-Galante deck are 27 staterooms with porthole views, three of which have triple occupancy and two with king-size beds. On the higher Antigua deck are a further five staterooms larger in area and with king-size beds, each with a porthole view. Cabins are attractive, comfortable and bright. There are no single or wheelchair-accessible cabins. Past guests rate service at 5+ stars.

Amenities include flat-screen TV, controllable AC, bathrobes, hair dryer, French bath products, safe, and satellite telephone (costs are payable). Cabin service is 24-hours, and breakfast can be brought to your cabin on request. Laundry service can be arranged. Bedding can be changed to twin beds. There is Wi-Fi connectivity in cabins and public areas. The mini-bar is re-stocked daily, and from May 2015 drinks are complimentary..

Food and Dining
Dining is a special experience, a Michelin star chef presenting French cuisine served with a selection of complimentary wines, in Le Diamant Panoramic Restaurant, on the same deck as the Wheelhouse. A fine wine list is also available to you. At lunchtime a buffet is served on the terrace. In the evening dine in the Karukéra Gastronomic Restaurant. Diners have armchairs and tables with varying size groups, fresh flowers on the table, panoramic views of the ocean, and the chefs make best use of local and fresh foods. Coffee, tea and pastries are available outside restaurant hours.

What could be more refreshing than a seafood barbeque on the deck overlooking the blue ocean, perhaps a sandy island, after a morning of swimming off the stern marina. In the evening make up a group around the bar for drinks and conversation to piano accompaniment. Dress comfortably as you please, though your table steward will don black tie and white gloves. There is an Open Bar from May 2015.

Entertainment
Consider your yachting experience under five sails as your prime entertainment. Destinations are selected for their great opportunities to view nature, scenery, and interesting ports. When moored and conditions are suitable you have access to a good range of water-sports equipment and Zodiacs off the sea-level platform.

On board entertainment is low key with informal contributions from the crew, or check your emails at the Internet/Library desk. The public rooms are sufficiently large for all to attend presentations. Meet others in the Emeraude Lounge, at the Saphir Lounge, or while viewing from the Sun Deck. Smoking is allowed in designated outside areas.
