Carnival Mardi Gras cruises for 2020-2021
Carnival Mardi Gras, with a first-off navy blue hull with red and white accent stripes, sails August 2020. It will debut first in Europe, where it will sail one nine-night Baltic Sea cruise, followed by one 14-night transatlantic cruise with stops in the Canary Islands and Portugal. Its U.S. debut will be in New York City, from which it will sail a six-night Canada and New England cruise roundtrip from New York, before repositioning to its permanent homeport of Port Canaveral. From there it will sail out of a new state-of-the-art terminal. Eight-night cruises to the Eastern Caribbean will visit Grand Turk, Amber Cove (the Line’s private resort), San Juan, and St Thomas. A seven-night cruise leaves out St Thomas. Seven-night cruises to the Western Caribbean visit Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico and Roatan in Honduras.
Mardi Gras is the first of two “XL-Class” ships under construction for Carnival, with a second vessel to arrive in 2022. It will be the cruise line's first ship to run on liquefied natural gas (LNG), a form of fuel that reduces toxic emissions. The name of the ship recalls Carnival Cruise Line's first-ever ship, which retired in 1993. Mardi Gras will feature six themed zones that combine eateries with entertainment: Three-storey Grand Central entertainment complex; a New Orleans style French Quarter; Summer Landing based on Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse Brewhouse; Italy-inspired La Piazza; Lido; and the Ultimate Playground on the top three decks, that includes 60m above the ocean the first rollercoaster at sea. At 185,000 GT and carrying 5200 guests, this sparkling new family ship will be the largest in Carnival’s FunShip fleet.

Life aboard Carnival Mardi Gras
At 185,000 GT and carrying 5200 guests, this sparkling new family ship will be the largest in Carnival’s FunShip fleet.
Accommodation
Cabin categories (with many sub-categories) include interior staterooms, ocean view, balcony, and suites. Each of these categories has a Cloud 9 Spa variation, with complimentary access to all the spa accessories and fitness programs. Eighty percent of the cabins are outside; 80 percent of those staterooms have private balconies. Each cabin has a gift amenity basket in its bathroom. All staterooms include TVs, safe, hair dryer, telephone, controllable AC, bathrobes to wear during your cruise, and Carnival Comfort Bed with plush mattresses, good quality duvets, linens and pillows. You’ll have 24-hour room steward and nightly turndown service. Standard cabins are a good size. Most with twin beds that can be converted to king-size bed. Good design and soft lighting add to a feeling of spaciousness in interior staterooms.
Havana staterooms and suites (deck 8; for over-11s) are a ship within a ship, located near the Havana Bar & Pool, for members only. Larger are Havana Cabana suites. Cloud 9 staterooms and suites (decks 5, 17) come with many privileges. For families there are Family Harbor staterooms and suites (deck 4) that are attached to child-friendly areas, activities, restaurants and lounge. The Suites are larger depending on level, including large bathroom with twin wash basins, and a whirlpool bathtub. Suites qualify for priority check-in at port. There’s also a mini-bar or refrigerator in each suite. There are no single cabins, many wheelchair-accessible cabin, and many with interconnecting doors. Cabins sleep up to five guests. A room service menu is available 24-hours.
Food and Dining
There are three principal dining rooms with a choice of fixed-time dining at two seatings, or flexible “Your Time Dining”. Dining assignments can be booked before the cruise. Menus change daily and service is excellent. Breakfast and lunch are open seating at a variety of locations, and include a late morning Brunch. Kids have their own menu. Lido Marketplace is the expansive two-level poolside eatery, offering casual alternatives for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Adjacent is Guy’s Burger Joint and Blue Iguana Cantina (Mexican). Also on the pool deck is a pizza station, a deli, and Ji Ji Asian Kitchen.
There are eight alternative restaurants (by reservation, with cover charge) serving steak, seafood, Asian, and Italian cuisine. The Chef’s Table, reserved for 16, is a special dining experience that includes a galley tour. On the promenade deck a premium coffee bar serves specialty coffees and sweets (there's a charge). Many casual restaurants provide choices of fast-food, BBQ, Mexican, and pasta. There are numerous coffee, iced tea and lemonade stations as well as self-serve ice cream and frozen yoghurt machines. The ship offers 24-hour room service, ranging from basic continental-style breakfast fare to a variety of sandwiches and desserts.
Entertainment
There is something for everyone. Mardi Gras Theater, spanning two decks, presents large production shows and cabaret acts backed by a live show band. It has a revolving stage, hydraulic orchestra pit, and excellent sound. The second stage entertainment is at the Comedy Club lounge (family-friendly, also adult). Seaside Theatre’s giant screen over the main pool shows sports events, music videos and films. After dinner is the time for late buffet snacks, comedy and nightclub. There’s the Piano Bar, interactive games, and a dance floor. As launch time approaches, more details of the entertainment will be revealed.
Daytime activities include the customary art auctions, karaoke, "game show mania," ballroom dancing, comedians, and bingo. Adults have the large action-packed Winner’s Luck Casino and their adults-only Serenity Retreat. Take an aerobics class, work out in the gym, refresh with a beauty treatment and massage. Access to Cloud 9 Spa with its Thalassotherapy pool, treatment rooms and tea house is limited to Spa staterooms or by day paid pass. There’s a mini-golf course, jogging track, and deck games. On one side of the Seaside Theatre is SportsSquare, which has multiple outdoor activities for all ages; and on the other side is the Waterworks and water slide. On the top deck is the electric Roller Coaster, hopefully free, depending on the demand.. Teens enjoy their own parties and movies at Club O2, junior teens at Circle “C”, and pre-teens at Camp Carnival. Keep linked to the outside world at the Internet Café.
