The Hawaiian Island chain consists of eight major islands and over 120 minor reefs and islands, so a Hawaiian cruise is the best way to explore the channels and waterways that intersect the islands. The four primary islands of Oahu, Hawaii, Kauai, and Maui are the most popular sites that tourists will visit on their Hawaiian cruise. Hawaii’s beauty and diversity is seen in its active volcanism, inviting waters, Polynesian culture, hula dances and regional cuisine. Well-known ports include Honolulu Harbour and Pearl Harbour. Tourist ships generally visit four of the main islands.

NCL’s Pride of America (US staffed), based in Honolulu, offers year-round 7-night cruises of the main islands. Between September and May five of the large cruise lines have vessels based in ports on the US west coast, which make 12- to 15-night cruises of the main Hawaiian islands (and the four sea days each way give guests time to enjoy the on-board entertainment). Take a half-crossing of the Pacific, between Hawaii and either Australia or North America. Grand Tours of the Pacific (75 nights) and World Cruises will also include Hawaii.

Many Princess ships depart California for 15-night cruises to Hawaii, also Eurodam, early each year. Carnival Spirit, Celebrity Solstice, Noordam, Ovation Of The Seas and Radiance Of The Seas cross the Pacific between Australia and North America around April and September annually, calling at Hawaii. Take a half-crossing or full crossing. Just check which ports are visited in the Hawaiian islands, and what time you have for island tours. These repositioning cruises can be cost effective. Smaller luxury vessels Le Boréal, Le Soléal, and Azamara Journey usually add French Polynesia to their Hawaiian visits. In October/November 2019 Amsterdam makes a 51-night Grand Cruise out of San Diego to 26 Pacific islands, including five Hawaiian ports. Around March 2020 Maasdam makes a Pacific crossing that is worth considering.
