The Hawaiian Island chain consists of eight major islands and over 120 minor reefs and islands, so a Hawaiian cruise is the best way to explore the channels and waterways that intersect the islands. The four primary islands of Oahu, Hawaii, Kauai, and Maui are the most popular sites that tourists will visit on their Hawaiian cruise. Hawaii’s beauty and diversity is seen in its active volcanism, inviting waters, Polynesian culture, hula dances and regional cuisine. Well-known ports include Honolulu Harbour and Pearl Harbour. Tourist ships generally visit four of the main islands.

NCL’s Pride of America (US staffed), based in Honolulu, offers year-round 7-night cruises of the main islands. Between September and May five of the large cruises lines have vessels based in ports on the US west coast, which make 12- to 15-night cruises of the main Hawaiian islands (and the four sea days each way give guests time to enjoy the on-board entertainment). Take a half-crossing of the Pacific, between Hawaii and either Australia or North America. Grand Tours of the Pacific (75 nights) will also include Hawaii.

Eight ships make the half-Pacific crossing in 2013/4, so you have a wide choice of sailing dates, and these are very cost effective. Celebrity Century makes the ‘Golden Gate to Opera House’ cruise (14nights) in September 2014.Grand Circle tours of the Pacific are offered by HAL’s Amsterdam (September 2013 and 2014).
