Cruises from Santiago (Manzanillo)
Mountain vistas just beyond Santiago’s tall buildings are one of the special pleasures of this beautiful, sprawling, Mexican capital. The city of Santiago straddles the Río Tuxla, and offers many 19th century structures such as a museum with artefacts dating to the Olmecs. Centro is the downtown area and the oldest part of Santiago. Then there’s the artistic enclave of Bellas Artes and some unexpected neighbourhoods within, which might make you think you had stumbled into Paris or Rio.
History is found here in the Spanish Colonial buildings in the leafy Plaza de Armas and the stately Civic Quarter. Santiago has historic squares, broad avenues, modern buildings, green parks, tempting shops, wonderful restaurants and diverse neighbourhoods.
