Cruises from Cienfuegos
Cienfuegos (“one hundred fires”) is a city on the southern coast of Cuba, with a population of over 160,000. Its history traces from indigenous Tiano people, Spanish conquistadors and French immigrants, to becoming a Spanish city in 1819. The narrow entrance to the Bay of Cienfuegos was guarded from pirates by Castillo de Jagua, or Jagua Fortress, built by King Philip V of Spain. The harbour continues to be an essential port for Cuba’s economy, exporting sugar, coffee and tobacco.
