Sitka, the fourth largest city by population in Alaska, is nestled on the west side of Baranof Island, and is thought to be the most beautiful of SE Alaska cities. The flora and fauna of Sitka and its surrounding area are notable attractions. Residents and visitors alike enjoy fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, and simply experiencing all this dynamic town has to offer. Sitka is one of the oldest and most culturally significant communities in Alaska. Floatplane excursions are a breathtaking way to view the area's many sights from ‘up above’.

In the city there are many buildings that reflect the history of this significant Alaskan community, such as: the Pioneer Home, the Russian Bishop’s House, the Alaska Raptor Centre, as well as the Sitka Historical and Sheldon Jackson Museums. Then there are the St Lazaria National Wildlife Refuge, the National Historical Park and the Tongass Natural Forest to appreciate nature. There are also many religious buildings of significance such as St Michael’s Cathedral and St Peter’s-By-The-Sea Episcopal Church. A most valuable resource is the people of Sitka, who share a pride in their home and a love of life in all its small-town splendour.

The Sitka National Historical Park now helps preserve the culture of the Tlingit people, as well as the Russian and American settlers, with collections of rare artefacts, the preserved remains of the Tlingit fort, and a Russian Bishop's House. Guided hiking day trips, such as climbing the 11 km trail to the top of the dormant volcano Mount Edgecumbie, are large enterprises in Sitka. Kayaking is another popular activity and small guided day excursions are offered locally. Sitka is famous for its spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife, and culturally rich history.
