Cruises visiting Barrow & all Barrow cruises for  2019

Situated some 530km above the Arctic Circle, Barrow is the northernmost settlement in the USA, the largest Inupiat community in Alaska, and the administrative and commercial hub of Alaska's Far North. It is also one of the most distinctive places you'll likely ever visit. Sites on the National Register of Historic Places are the Cape Smythe Whaling and Trading Station in nearby Browerville, and the Birnirk Archaeological site approximately 3.5km north of the Barrow airfield.

Today, Barrow's wealth is famous due to the recovery of North Slope petroleum, so it boasts facilities that are totally unexpected in a town of this size. The Inupiat Heritage Centre offers visitors the opportunity to purchase arts and crafts, such as baleen boats, etched baleen, carved ivory, masks, parkas and fur mittens. Barrow serves as a hub community for smaller outlying villages, and its population of more than 4,000 residents makes it one of Alaska’s larger villages.

However, for tourists, Barrow's greatest appeal is its novel latitude. They come to see the midnight sun (which doesn't set for 82 days from May to early August), and feel as though they have been to ‘the top of the world’. During the summer months tour operators offer package tours of the area that can include viewing polar bears, photographing snowy owl, and learning about the North Slope’s traditional culture.
