Cruises visiting Odessa & all Odessa cruises for  2020

Odessa is located on the NW shore of the Black Sea in southern Ukraine. Its architecture is a delightful mix of Russian, French, and Italian styles while some buildings are a mixture that includes Art Nouveau and Renaissance. Interestingly, many of the homes were built of limestone mined nearby. The abandoned mines were first used by smugglers and then, during WWII, served as hiding places for partisans. Subsequently, there is today a gigantic network of catacombs that is of great interest to tourists. Ukrainian is the country's only official language, but the native language of most of the population in Odessa is Russian, while young people tend to know English.

With its abundance of sunny days, the city’s many delightful beaches - for example the Gold Coast with its luxurious white sand and numerous small cafes - attract tourists. Also well known for the beauty of its parks, including the City Garden with the distinguished singing fountain and historical monuments, visitors are provided with a very restful spot due to plenty of shade from age-old trees. If possible, climb the famous Potemkin Stairs that connect the port with the centre of the city, to understand why the city is known as the Pearl of the Black Sea.

Also worth exploring are the delightful tree-lined streets such as Alexander Avenue, and never forget the main Deribasovska Street - mostly closed to traffic - with its pavement of stone blocks, and filled with various shops and cafes. Nearby is the Greek Square where in 2004 there was opened the trade centre “Athena”. It is one of the highest buildings in the historical part of the city. Also worth visiting are the Colonnade of the Vorontsov Palace and the palace itself that is built on the place of the former early 19th century Turkish fortress, Hadzhibey.
