Cruises from Location of mutiny on the Bounty

The Mutiny on the Bounty took place board the Royal Navy ship HMS Bounty on 28 April 1789, about 56 kms south-west of Tofua Island, Tonga. The mutiny was led by Fletcher Christian against the commanding officer, Captain William Bligh. The ship's mission was to sail from England to Tahiti, pick up breadfruit plants and transport them to the West Indies in order to grow them there as a cheap source of food for slaves. After five months in Tahiti, the Bounty set sail with its breadfruit cargo, the crew having lived ashore and socializing to the customs and culture of the Tahitians.
