The Scattered Islands (Îles Éparses) are a dispersed group of islands around the coast of Madagascar. They are part of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands, groups of small islands spread east of Africa and in the southern Indian Ocean. The Scattered Islands consist of four small coral islands, an atoll, and a reef. They include Europa Island and Juan de Nova Island that lie in the Mozambique Channel west of Madagascar, and the Gloriosa Islands that lie 200 km off the NW of Madagascar. They have no permanent population, rather automated meteorological stations to warn of cyclones, and airstrips.

The islands are nature reserves. Europa Island is 6 km in diameter and surrounded by coral beaches and a fringing reef enclosing a mangrove lagoon. The island is a nesting site for green sea turtles and goats, and breeding site for seabirds and waterbirds. Europa Island was the setting of a 1968 episode of "The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau", partly focusing on the breeding habits of the green sea turtle. Named from the British ship Europa that visited in 1774, ruins and graves remain of earlier settlements from the 1860s to the 1920s.

Juan de Nova is a low, flat, tropical island in the narrowest part of the Mozambique Channel. It is a nature reserve surrounded by reefs enclosing a lagoon. The island is an important bird breeding area. Interestingly, there are remains of WWII German submarine installations that include a hangar, rail lines, houses and a jetty; also the remains of the SS Tottenham which ran onto the southern fringing reef in 1911. The two Glorioso Islands, the larger thickly vegetated, and the smaller formerly mined for guano and the site of bird and turtle nesting grounds. In the ocean, migratory species such as humpback whales and whale sharks may appear.
