Cruises visiting Constanta & all Constanta cruises for  2020

View Constanta 2020 cruises for 1 ships listing 2 cruises from Constanta with today's best deals!

Constanta, Romania’s largest seaport, is situated on the western coast of the Black Sea. It is an ancient metropolis that traces back its history for some 2,600 years. The old town centre is well worth visiting. Explore its amazing archaeological treasures such as many ancient ruins, vestiges of Roman culture, historic buildings, facades, and mosques. In the surrounding countryside there are traditional villages, vineyards, ancient monuments, and a bird-lovers’ paradise - with bird species from Asia, Africa, Australia, New Guinea, and South America - at the Danube Delta. These, together with many fine mansions and hotels built in the 19th century, make Constanta an important cultural and economic centre.

Some focal points of interest include Ovidiu’s Square, built in 1887, and home to the 91 sq.m. remains of the colourful Roman Mosaics built toward the end of the 4th C AD. View archaeological vestiges of workshops, warehouses, and shops. Roman public baths can still be seen nearby. Then there is the Genoese Lighthouse, built to honour Genoese merchants who established a flourishing sea trade community here in the 13th century. See the House with Lions that features four columns adorned with sculptured lions, and several famous buildings of religious significance. Visit the Archaeological Park right in the centre of the city for a pleasant walk if you're in the area.

There are also many famous museums, such as the Folk Art museum with household items that highlight the way of life in the various regions of the country, and the National History and Archaeological Museum with its impressive display of artefacts of Greek and Roman civilisations. There is also an Aquarium and a Dolphinarium, both of which are popular with visitors of all ages. Be sure to visit the open-air restaurants and appreciate why this has become the focal point of Black Sea Coast tourism.
