Romblon Island is one of twenty islands (two other large islands are Sibuyan and Tablas) in the province of the same name, at the geometric centre of the 7107 scattered islands that constitute the Philippine Archipelago. The Romblon port and town lies 260 km SSE of the capital Manilla. Romblon Bay is a natural harbor and safe haven for ships passing in the area during inclement weather. It is also a ferry terminal for local islands and Manilla. Romblon lies on the western line of the volcanic Pacific Ring of Fire. Of course the climate is tropical maritime, hot and humid.

Romblomanon language is spoken locally, though English and Filipino are the official languages. Romblon Town on a protected harbour is quiet, good for a stroll, Internet cafe, and marble carvings. Sights to see here include: St. Joseph's Cathedral and Belfry (1640-1726); the Fuente de Belen (water fountain); the Old Municipal Building built out of coral limestone during the Spanish colonial era; the Bishop's Palace or Villa del Mar; and the Forts San Andres and Santiago, two Spanish forts made of coral between 1573 and 1644. All these reflect the Spanish colonisation from 1565 to 1946.

Nearly everything you want to see is near the port, in a setting of green hills. Take in the town’s tricycles, traffic and markets, especially at night. The island attracts ecotourism, has its share of white sandy beaches, and the island’s marble is claimed to be the best in the world – so visit the marble quarries near town. Snorkelling and scuba diving are popular amongst the coral reefs. Inland is mountainous with lush vegetation, and the sea provides most food.
