Borocay is a small island of the Philippines, located approximately 315 km south of Manila. This long (7 km) thin island is a tourist resort, one of the world's top destinations for relaxation. The island has long white talcum-fine beaches that rival many of the world’s best. Boracay's main tourism area, the 3.5 km long White Beach strip, is on the western side of the island and is sheltered from the wind, and subsequently the water is often as smooth as glass. On the eastern side, Bulabong beach makes the reef-protected waters ideal for wind surfing and kite boarding.

The code of the island is strictly informal as is typified by the swinging discos that have the beach for a floor. Many arrange to have a soothing massage under the shade of the coconut trees beside the shoreline. Trekking and mountain biking (the highest point is only at 90 m) can take visitors to the island’s quaint interior villages, and to the edges of scenic rocky cliffs, while along the way discovering many hidden coves and isolated beaches. One can also shop at the local market (Talipapa) and have freshly-cooked seafood.

Look out for the interactive Motag Living Museum to learn about the country’s cultural practices. Facilities for horse-riding, sailing, snorkelling, diving, parasailing and jet skiing are widely available. Perhaps take the opportunity to take a helicopter ride over the island. The ocean is full of romantic paraws (an outrigger sailboat) giving rides. Expansion of tourist facilities continues strongly, and the narrow ‘waist’ of the island is lined with restaurants, bars and dive shops several blocks deep. In 2014, the resort island was at the top of the Best Islands in the World list published by the international magazine Condé Nast Traveler.
