Mergui Archipelago consists of more than 800 islands stretching 225km N-S along the west coast of southern Myanmar, off the Malay Peninsula, lying in the Andaman Sea. The islands are limestone and granite, covered in tropical growth, with offshore coral reefs. Their attractions include many interesting rock formations, and their diversity of flora and fauna. The local people include the Moken (Sea gypsies) who follow traditional ways of ship building and fishing.
