I put good for destination/product as I thought you should have known that the ship was finishing up & let your customers know, as it was not good as drinks & food were running out."

Hambantota is the main town in Hambantota District, Southern Province, Sri Lanka. It is undergoing various development projects that form part of the government's plan to transform Hambantota into the second major urban hub of Sri Lanka, away from Colombo. Hambantota District is part of the traditional south known as Ruhuna. In ancient times this region, especially Hambantota and the neighboring areas, was the centre of a flourishing civilization. Historical evidence reveals that the region in that era was blessed with fertile fields and a stupendous irrigation network. This district played a vital role in nurturing the Sri Lankan Buddhist culture, as well as archaeological sites.

Hambantota, a charming seaside resort with a network of popular restaurants, stands on a sandy headland where a huge fleet of outrigger fishing canoes draws up, and the horizon is almost always dotted with their small triangular sails. With sweeping sandy beaches on either side, it is also a convenient base for exploring the nearby Bundala National Park and, somewhat further away, the Ruhuna National Park and the temples at Kataragama. The city is also famed for its beach stretching up to 150 km that attracts visitors.

The area has the Yala national park, a part of which is believed to have the highest concentration of leopards in the world. Together with the Bundala and Kumana parks, they all lie at the tip of an Asian bird migratory route and play host to vast flocks of water and forest birds from August to March of every year. The Kudawella Blow Hole where volumes of sea-water whistle through a natural fine hole from beneath a massive rock in the sea; the Situlpawwa rock temple with a history of over 2200 years; and the Mulkiriyagama rock temple; are all very well worth visiting.
