Cruises visiting Kitakyushu & all Kitakyushu cruises for  2019-2020-2021

View Kitakyushu 2019-2020-2021 cruises for 5 ships listing 10 cruises from Kitakyushu with today's best deals!

Kitakyushu is a major port on the northern tip of the island of Kyushu at the western entrance to the Inland Sea of Japan. Across a narrow strait is the larger island of Honshu. Kitakyushu was formed in 1963 by joining five smaller cities. It has been a hub of land and marine traffic for centuries, and is an important industrial centre. Many of the old buildings from the Meiji Period (1868-1912) can be seen around Moji Port. Most of Kitakyushu's main tourist attractions, including Space World and Moji Port are located within walking distance from a Japan Rail station.

Riverwalk Kitakyushu is a prestigious shopping centre near the Murasaki river and Kokura Castle, 10km from the port. Kawachi Wisteria Garden is a private garden in the wooded hills south of central Kitakyushu, famous for its spectacularly presented, large numbers of wisteria flowers, but entry must be booked ahead and arrive by shuttle bus. Space World is a large amusement park, superb for youngsters. The Kitakyushu Manga Museum introduces the history of manga (Japanese comics, huge in Japan). The museum occupies the fifth and sixth floors of Aru-Aru City.

Yawata Steel Works, the nation's first modern steel mill, retains historical buildings and a 30m high blast furnace, well worth a visit to learn of the city’s heritage and steel-making processes. The Toto Museum showcases the evolution of the flush toilet, old toilet seats, washlets (heated seats, blow-drying, music and auto-lids) – not to be missed, seriously! Yahata, now part of Kitakyushu, was the target for the second atomic bomb. Factory workers in Yashata released a cloud of black smoke to obscure the city as a target, and the bomb was dropped instead on Nagasaki.
