Cruises visiting Kei Islands & all Kei Islands cruises for  2019

The Kei Islands of Indonesia lie on the edge of the Banda Sea, South of the Bird's Head Peninsula of New Guinea. Very few tourists visit the islands, but to many this adds to the attraction. The islands areas made of sand and coral, and as such are completely flat and covered with dense coconut tree foliage. Kei Kecil (Small Kei) has beautiful beaches, but the best known is Pasir Panjang (Long Beach) consisting of three kilometres of white sand as fine as flour, framed by coconut palms and a sea in shades of green and turquoise. Perfect and picturesque, it simply waits for your camera.

A delightful 'away from it all' experience, you have the whole beach to yourself, except for the weekends, when the locals often come down to enjoy a picnic. Then you can get to know them and perhaps be able to purchase some local products, and listen to their different music, played with flutes, gongs and drums. There is a beach that many feel rivals Pasir Panjang, and that is Ohoidertutu beach. The sand is a bit less fine but still great, the bay is more horse shoe shaped and the palm trees are denser and taller, which makes for a wilder beach.

The Kei Islands are famous for having the very finest unspoilt white-sand beaches in all Indonesia. You can also hire a boat to visit the many small islands, and go fishing or diving. The regional capital Tual is well connected by boat or by plane to the rest of Indonesia via Ambon. Located directly south of Papua’s “bird head”, the Kei Islands encompass a number of small islands with Kei Besar and Kei Kecil the biggest islands in the group. Kei Besar may be bigger in size, but it is Kei Kecil that has the larger population.
