Kythira is an island of Greece, historically part of the Ionian Islands. Since the ancient times, until the mid-19th century, Kythira had been a crossroads of merchants, sailors, and conquerors. As such, it has had a long and varied history and has been influenced by a plethora of civilisations and cultures. On a hill above Chora there is a strong castle with a breathtaking view to the Aegean Sea. Kapsali, Agia Pelagia, Avlemonas and Diakofti are some of the tourist sites on Kythira. A drive around the island will take visitors to wonderful beaches, lovely monasteries and even ghost villages, like the abandoned town of Paleochora.

Located on the southern side of the Peloponnese peninsula, Kythira is a secluded island with a relaxing atmosphere. Although Kythira island is considered part of the Ionian Sea, it is located far from the other Ionian islands. After a long time of Venetian occupation in the Medieval ages, this island has a vivid Venetian architecture, especially in Chora, the capital town. Kythira is a lovely family island with a secluded atmosphere. With an intense Medieval style and unorganized beaches, this is a great place for total relaxation.

A tour around the island will bring you to mountainous villages, abandoned places, hidden beaches and monasteries. Some of the most beautiful beaches in Kythira are accessible through a track road. Holidays in Kythira will give you amazing moments of relaxation and privacy. Famous for the relaxing atmosphere and the secluded beaches, the island also has many sights to visit and things to do. The monasteries of Agia Moni, Agia Elesa and Myrtidiotissa are among the most famous on Kythira island, while the small church inside the cave of Agia Sofia is also worth a visit.
