Cruises visiting Itea & all Itea cruises for  2019-2020

Itea lies in a bay in the Gulf of Corinth and serves as the port from which to visit Delphi, situated on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, a place of stunning views. Renowned for having the most famous oracle in ancient Greece, it was considered to be the centre of the world. At the archaeological site you will see the remains of a theatre and a stadium where the Pythian festival - similar to the Olympic Games – was held. Four triumphal arches 'shout' the triumphs of the past, while the Sanctuary of the Oracles will be the highlight of any visit.

Itea is also the gateway to Mount Parnassus and Delphi. Delphi was literally the centre of the world - a spot marked by the Omphalos stone in the Sanctuary of Apollo. It was to Delphi that figures both mythic and historic came to consult the Oracle of Delphi. Delphi had a theatre, and has a well preserved stadium which once held chariot races. These were excavated from the mid-1800s and today the ruins stand impressively in their mountain landscape. Delphi retains its mass appeal due to its historical significance and aesthetic beauty, as well as ruins of many ancient temples and monuments.

Another place of historic interest, just to the east of Itea, is the site of ancient Kirra, with monuments that existed as a heavily fortified city controlling access to Delphi from the Corinthian Gulf. Itea’s coastal waters serve as an ideal launching point for water sports that include swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving, fishing, sailing, boating, sea-kayaking, and a wide array of other popular outdoor excursions. Several small yet interesting shops can be found along the waterfront of Itea's main street. Carpets, ceramics, clothing, silver, jewellery, and handicrafts are typical items available here.
