What a credit Lisa is to you. She has never once rushed me off the phone (and I do like a chat haha). Lisa is always professional yet friendly and has totally changed my mind about travel agents. After all, I have now booked THREE cruises through her personally."

Cruises visiting Belle Île & all Belle Île cruises for  2019

Belle Île is a truly beautiful French island off the coast of Brittany, and the largest of Brittany's islands. With its stunning cliffs, delightful seaside hamlets, pastel coloured homes, green countryside and amazing jagged rocky coastlines, it is not surprising that the island has been an inspiration to painters such as Monet, as well as to authors and sailors. Although extremely popular to tourists in summer, it is large enough for you to escape from the crowd and find a spot to relax and indulge in delicious fresh seafood, crêpes, cider and other delights from the regional cuisine of Brittany.

While there are cars for rent, the more popular choices are for a bicycle or a motor scooter, as these provide the opportunity to take in the panoramic views all around the island. Be sure to check out the Côte Sauvage (wild coast) with its rocky needles, sea caves and rough waters that inspired Monet’s series of paintings. At the main village of Le Palais visit the huge star- shaped Vauban Citadel and explore the doorways leading to mysterious cellars and underground passages, endless sequences of rooms, dungeons and deserted cells.

During summer the island's population increases dramatically, as many people own a second home on the island due to its secluded location and beaches. It is a particularly attractive destination with some beautiful scenery and coastal views interspersed with pretty little towns and villages and port towns. Three smaller villages, Sauzon, Bangor and Locmaria, each located at one of the island's extremities, also make for enjoyable visits. Because much of the coastline on Belle Île is marked by rocky cliffs, there are only a few places where visitors can find a beach for swimming. On the sheltered Port Kerel there is the 2 km Plage des Grands Sables, which is the biggest though busiest beach on the island.
