Cruises visiting Hendaye & all Hendaye cruises for  2019

The popular seaside resort of Hendaye is the most south-westerly town in France. It is a commune on the Atlantic coast, and is situated on the right bank of the Bidassoa River that separates France from Spain. Visitors need only to walk across the bridge of the ‘Avenue d'Espagne’, and arrive in Spain. Fascinatingly the small island in the middle of the river, the uninhabited Ile des Faisans, alternates every six months between being French territory and Spanish territory. The town square, where there is a weekly open-air market on Wednesdays, is the location of the famous 17th C Great Cross of Hendaye. It is a stone cross carved with symbols that occultists believe contains information of a future global catastrophe. Both the church of Saint-Vincent - built in the16th C – and situated in the centre of the town, and the unusual moorish style of the building that was originally Hendaye Casino, make for an interesting visit.

Chateau Abbadia is also well worth a visit as it is in a delightful setting and visitors can meander freely throughout the inside and grounds of the Chateau. The castle was constructed in the 19th C in a 'neo-gothic' style so as to look medieval, and amazingly, furnished throughout in an oriental style. The castle also incorporates a large observatory that can still be seen and where astronomy-related tours and events are often available. Explore the pleasant fishing port, and be sure to climb the hill behind the seafront and absorb the views both across the sea as well as of the Pyrenees that start just inland. Hendaye’s 3km of beach offers many options for surfers of all levels. Other options include playing a round golf at the excellent Dioxka Golf Academie.
