Girolata is situated on Corsica, a French island in the Mediterranean Sea. It is located west of the Italian Peninsula, and 190km SE of Nice on the French mainland. Girolata is a fishermen's village that is transformed from a very quiet backwater for most of the village to a thriving tourist centre in the tourist months. There is a small beach in Girolata, and a dominating Genoese Fortin de Girolata, a small XVIth century fortress, that stands above the village.
