West Point Island is one of the Falkland Islands lying west of West Falkland. Once a popular site for slaughtering seals, it is now owned by the Napier family and run as a sheep farm and tourist attraction. With a population consisting of only four people, visitors are fascinated to see their little home and appreciate their self-sufficiency. A walk across the island provides visitors with the opportunity to see the wildlife that includes Rockhopper penguins, and possibly some Commerson's dolphins. There are a few trees, an abundance of Felton Plant, as well as some introduced plants that include - to name but a few - roses and daisies. Spectacular cliffs are a feature of the coastline.

In the 19th C West Point was a centre for slaughtering seals and penguins for oil, then in 1879 established as a sheep farm. Since 1968 the late Lars-Eric Lindblad brought cruise tourists to the island. Today it is second to Port Stanley for expedition vessels, guests landing by Zodiacs. The settlement is beautifully cultivated with introduced flowers and, uncommonly, even a few trees. The birdlife gave the island its original name, Albatross Island.

The main destination for visitors to this island is Devil’s Nose, a rocky promontory with over 2,000 pairs of black-browed albatrosses and about 500 pairs of Rockhopper penguins. As well as the rich wildlife, the picturesque settlement and small harbour often teeming with dolphins make this island well worth a visit. Though famous for the many battles fought throughout the years, it is the dramatic scenery including the highest cliffs in the peninsula with the highest point in the Falklands Cliff Mountain standing at 381 metres, that will long be remembered.
