Yasawa is the main island of the Yasawa Group, an archipelago located in NW Fiji. The group’s 12 major islands lie along a SW-NE line 88 km stretch, directly north of Fiji’s main island of Viti Levu and its port Lautoka. These are high, grass-covered islands, populated by 30 or so modest backpacker resorts, and tracks running the length of each island: no shops, plenty of beaches, and much sunshine. The British navigator William Bligh was the first European to sight the Yasawas in 1789. Today sailing the blue waters is a feature. Otherwise, just relax.

Yasawa Island is famous for its beautiful white sandy beaches such as the Eight Month Beach, lush tropical rainforests, and - for trekkers - spectacular mountain-top views of the Islands. The village trip tours are very relaxed and you’ll be able to wander freely and meet many of the villagers - particularly the children - as they go about their daily life. It’s also a great place for snorkelling, scuba diving, and swimming. What's more, Yasawa Island is relatively unspoilt for this part of the world and offers ample opportunity to get close to nature.

Yasawa’s resorts offer a variety of activities including picnicking or swimming at one of many deserted beaches, participating in a game of tennis and even game fishing. You can also charter a boat to Nanuya Levu, where one can visit the amazing ancient limestone Sawailau caves that were used in the film Blue Lagoon. Indeed, the boat trip up to the caves is worth taking for its own sake because the scenery will blow you away. A guided kayaking trip is delightful as your guide will know the best route to take, the best snorkelling spots, the loveliest beaches and also be able to tell you of life on the island.
