Castellon de la Plana on the Canary Islands of Spain was originally an inland town, but was moved closer to the coast in the 13th century. It has an interesting old town area that is well worth a visit. Fans of archaeology will be particularly interested in the Torres dels Alcaments Museum located at Plaza de las Aguilas, as its structure is made of the fourteenth century walls of the original fortified city. Of special interest are the many historic monuments, especially the cathedral’s bell tower found at the Plaza Mayor.

Aristocratic houses and beautiful churches draw you to the eastern city, a good starting point for getting to know part of the Spanish coast. Museums, such as the Museum of Ethnology that highlights tools used by craftsmen of the middle ages, as well as rural equipment of that time, give visitors an introduction into the city’s ancient history. Then there’s the Museum of Fine Arts that is well known for its collection of ceramic pieces from the 16th to the 19th centuries, and the Convent of the Capuchines with its excellent art work. If possible also be sure to taste the authentic Spanish cuisine specialising in seafood.

The capital of the county of La Plana, situated on the Costa del Azahar, has countless attractions. Aristocratic houses and beautiful churches draw you to the eastern city, a good starting point for getting to know part of the Spanish coast. The current church of Santa María de la Asuncion was rebuilt in 1939, and today only conserves the original Gothic style on its facades and some elements on the interior. The El Fadrí bell tower, with an octagonal base, stands separate from the body of the church and was built in the 16th century.
