Uninhabited North Seymour Island is a tiny low island off the northern tip of Baltra Island in the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador. They are a remote archipelago of equatorial volcanic islands situated in the eastern Pacific Ocean, about 955 km west of mainland Ecuador, of which they are a province. The islands form a national park, and a biological marine reserve, where wildlife is the most notable feature. North Seymour is barely 2 km across and 30 m high. The whole of the island is covered with low, bushy vegetation including cacti, and birdlife. The rocky shores are home to sea iguanas, sea lions, pelicans and gulls.

The island is home to land iguanas, and large populations of blue-footed boobies and swallow-tailed gulls. It hosts one of the largest populations of magnificent frigatebirds, the males displaying their puffy red throat pouches. A large colony of land iguanas was relocated from Baltra Island in the 1930s because of the better food supply. North Seymour has a visitor trail approximately 2 km in length, crossing the inland of the island and exploring the rocky coast. The island lacks greenery during the dry season.

Visitors can watch pairs of boobies conducting their mating ritual with much honking, stretching and dancing. There’s no need for binoculars as the animal life is so un-phased by visitors. The frigates are large with up to 2.3m wing span. Boobies hunt fish in flocks, and frigatebirds dive-bomb them to steal their catches. The sea is home to Galapagos sharks, white-tip sharks, large rays, pelagic and reef fish.
