Kitzingen, a town in the state of Bavaria, is the capital of the Kitzingen district, and lies on the banks of the Main River. Kitzingen County is the largest wine producer in Bavaria and is said to be the Franconia's wine trade centre. Take a leisurely walk around the fascinating narrow cobbled roads lined with attractively coloured and interesting architecture, and then stop to taste the wide range of food at the numerous popular restaurants. The bridge over the Main River accommodates both pedestrians and automobiles. It is narrow and there is usually a lot of foot traffic, so don’t step off the sidewalk.

The city's main landmark is the Leaning Tower, built during the 13th century. It is distinctive for its crooked roof. According to local legend, the tower was being built during a drought, and workers used wine instead of water to make the mortar, causing the top of the tower to lean. Regardless of its true history, it is undeniable that the Crooked Tower stands as a sentinel in the middle of Germany’s largest wine-producing region. Visitors won't be able to miss the famous Yellow Church with its intricate detail, as tourists come from all over the country to see it.

The Kitzingen Old Cemetery located across the street from the tower is home to what many believe is Dracula’s grave, though there is the possibility that the heavily-decorated grave belonged to a very rich family. Wine festivals are held in April through to June and July. In October the town holds a big festival called Letzte Fuhre, when the final grapes are brought in from the vineyards. Local musicians play and costumed folk dancers perform. Booths and tables are set up in the town square so that visitors can taste wine from many different wineries and enjoy food and socializing.
