Cruises visiting Yantai & all Yantai cruises for  2019

Yantai, in the middle of Shandong Peninsular, around 200 km from Qingdao, is one of the most beautiful coastal cities in China. It offers a picturesque, even romantic seascape, whose beauty is epitomised in the stretch along the Binhai Road. Yantai's bathing beaches are very relaxed. Yantai is the cradle of Chinese wine production, being home to the largest wine production base in all of Asia. The internationally recognized wine brand, Changyu, produced in Yantai, has thrust the city onto the world wine stage. Yantai people are also proud of their seafood preparation, which is now famous throughout the country.

Yantai, which means Smoke Terrace, was a small fishing village during the Ming Dynasty. Wolf-dung fires were lit on today's Yantai Hill to warn the fishing fleets of approaching pirates during the Ming Dynasty. However, the arrival of the British and many other western nations in the late 19th century turned what was once a backwater into a busy trade port. In the late 19th century, Yantai was handed over to the British by the decaying Qing government, following the defeat of the Second Opium War. The well-preserved western architecture in Yantai Hill bears witness to Yantai's humiliating past.

Its many sightseeing attractions feature the Penglai Pavilion, “fairyland on earth”, and Yantai Hill, the symbol of the city. Situated on Mountain Redcliff and rising abruptly from the northern seashore, Penglai Pavilion is one of the four well-known ancient Chinese Pavilions. Also not to be missed are the Penglai Pavilion, Luzu Temple, Sanqing Temple, the Palace of the Celestial Queen and other architectural units, each surrounded by towers, halls, pavilions and terraces. Most miraculous is the Wind-sheltering Pavilion, standing high on the mountain peak facing the sea. Another prestigious landscape is Yantai Hill, bordering the sea to the north and the land to the south.
