Our cruise choice is based purely on new and different destinations, not travel agents or actual cruise line, so at the moment we have run out of ideas of safe and interesting places to visit where we haven't been before, and therefore may not find anything to book!! Therefore no reflection on our past experiences with you or the cruise line."

Puerto Williams is a Chilean port and naval base located on Isla Navarino facing the Beagle Channel. It lies 46 km E of Ushuaia on the opposite N side of the Chanel. With a population of a little over 2,000, including both naval personnel and civilians, Puerto Williams claims to be the southernmost city in the world (based on definition of ‘city’; its population is 2900). During the last two decades tourism and support of scientific research have contributed to an increase in economic activity. Its scientific activity relates to Antarctica and the islands south of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego.

Access is by air or by a ferry service from Punta Arenas, 350 kilometres to the north in Chile, or by private yacht charter from Ushuaia in Argentina. There are several trails for multi-day hikes and back-packing trips in the mountains to the south, while remains of Indian campsites and fishtraps can be found along the coast to the east. During the summer months (January-March), private sailing boats and charter yachts use it as a departure port for Cape Horn and the Antarctic Peninsula. In the last week of May the city holds a sailing competition attracting international participants. The Snow Festival is celebrated in July’s winter season.

The local fishing industry is based on the southern king crab. Puerto Williams is home to the Martin Gusinde Anthropological Museum, which depicts the lives of the Yámana or Yahgan and Selknam peoples, who were indigenous to Tierra del Fuego. For easy exploration of some of the subantarctic forest, the Omora Ethnobotanical Park is 5 km down the road to the west. The bow section of the Yelcho, the tug used by Luis Pardo in 1916 to rescue Ernest Shackleton's men stranded on Elephant Island, has been installed at the front of the Naval headquarters.
