Sam Ford Fjord (Kangiqtualuk Uqquqti) lies within the Arctic Circle on the east coast of Canada’s Baffin Island, between the Inuit settlements of Pond Inlet (330 km to the NW) and Clyde River (80 km to the SE). The fjord is known for its glaciers and rugged beauty, with steep granite cliffs on both sides rising to 1500 m. Its mouth is about 20 km wide, and it extends inland 110 km. Walker Arm is a tributary fjord branching west from the fjord's western shore about 45 km to the south of its mouth.

The Sam Ford River discharges its waters at the head of the fjord. The fjord opens into Baffin Bay. For scenic cruising, Sam Ford Fjord one of the most impressive sights in the world. On entering the fjord a distance of 33.5 km, on the left side is a massive cliff on the eastern shore located at a bend in the fjord. It has a vertical wall dropping from a height of 1368 m to the fjord's waters. Clearly, the fjord is a popular place with climbers, and the scene of many epic climbs on the dozens of challenging faces.

The silence of the fjord is deafening, only broken by sounds of calving ice bergs or occasional strong winds. It was named in memory of Sam Ford. Ford was recognized as Canada’s most outstanding Inuk linguist and he died tragically in a helicopter crash. Sam Ford Fjord had been one of the traditional hunting areas of the Inuit. Swimming these waters are marine mammals including narwhals and seals. Expect to meet polar bears.
