Cruises visiting Talbot Bay & all Talbot Bay cruises for  2019

Talbot Bay encloses the 800, rugged and sparsely vegetated islands of the Buccaneer Archipelago in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The major attraction, drawing thousands of visitors each year, is the Horizontal 'two way' Waterfall' that results from massive tidal movements that cause a waterfall effect as water banks up against one side of a narrow coastal gorge, then hurtles through, sideways, up to 5 metres high, to be repeated again on the turning tide! Naturalist David described the Horizontal Falls as "One of the greatest wonders of the natural world".

The falls are turbulent and spectacular when seen from the air during the tidal run, but there is an hour or so when the flow is quite benign. This is the time to go exploring in the dinghy or climbing over the cliffs for some spectacular photo opportunities. Another option is to board a speedboat and get a closer look at two million litres of water rushing through a gap between ancient gorge formations. Forget a triple-looped roller-coaster ride - this is the real deal!

Large areas of Talbot Bay behind the falls, dry at low tide and the high tide covers jagged reefs and rock bars. It also hosts the Paspaley Pearl Farm, while in August pods of humpback whales pass by on their southern migration after calving in northern waters. These sights and challenges make Talbot Bay a special place and give one the feeling of having visited Australia's last frontier.
