Cruises from Possession Island
Possession Island is a small island and national park in the Torres Strait in far north Queensland, Australia. It was named by Captain James Cook after he landed there on 22 August 1770. Cook anchored his Bark "Endeavour", then landed with Joseph Banks and several crew. He then took possession of the whole eastern coast of New Holland Australia which he had surveyed in the name of King George III, naming it New South Wales. Read more
The spot where he stood is today marked by a solid concrete monument although the land has since been repossessed by local aborigines.
