Cruises visiting Lizard Island & all Lizard Island cruises for  2019

View Lizard Island 2019 cruises for 1 ships listing 3 cruises from Lizard Island with today's best deals!

Lizard Island, named after the numerous large but harmless lizards living there, is a national park in Queensland, Australia. It is situated 90 km north of Cooktown at the northern tip of Australia’s World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef. It is also the location of an award-winning and internationally famous resort. Lizard Island itself is fringed with spectacular coral reefs, and 24 powdery white beaches. The Island is well known for its scuba diving and snorkelling. Coral reef gardens encircle the island where giant clams laze on the seabed and dazzling, coloured tropical fish keep watch. The island is also the closest point to the Cod Hole, one of the best known diving sites on the Great Barrier Reef.

A well-known destination for snorkelling is the stunning No Name Reef that is home to gorgeous, bright-coloured coral and fish. Then there’s big game fishing for massive Black Marlin, an unforgettable experience for both beginners as well as seasoned fishermen. As part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, Lizard Island Research Station is situated on the island's most westerly point. Also of interest is the island's summit, named 'Cook's Look', after Captain Cook who passed the island in 1770. One of several walking trails takes you to this historic spot, which also provides superb panoramic views extending to the outer reef.

Sensational diving opportunities abound around this Marine National Park. At the Cod Hole you'll come face to face with a massive yet curious Potato Cod swimming right up to gently inspect you. Discover secluded, pristine beaches by foot or by motorised dinghy. This exclusive getaway makes the perfect holiday for those who appreciate privacy and elegance in amazing natural surroundings.
