Cruises visiting Flinders Island & all Flinders Island cruises for  2019

View Flinders Island 2019 cruises for 1 ships listing 1 cruises from Flinders Island with today's best deals!

Flinders Island was named in 1799, after Bass and Flinders circumnavigated Tasmania. The strait separating Tasmania from the mainland was named Bass Strait, while the major island in the Furneaux Group of 52 islands was named after Flinders. The history of these islands is closely tied to the tragic story of the Tasmanian Aboriginals, and the original settlement scheme that drew settlers from Tasmania and central NSW to the island's eastern shore. Then there’s the Wybalenna Historic Site that is regarded by the National Trust as one of the most important historic sites in Australia, and is truly well worth visiting. There are also Scenic Tours, Flight and Boat hire, or a 4WD drive tour.

With an average annual temperature of 10 to 18 degrees C, visitors can thoroughly enjoy the numerous beaches, rugged ranges, abundant wildlife, undisturbed flora and fauna, and clear sapphire waters. Activities include bush walking, rock hopping, swimming, searching for the paper nautilus shell, scuba diving, rock climbing, snorkelling and fishing. The Emita Museum at Settlement Point provides an insight into the fascinating early history of the islands inhabitants. These 'mountains in the sea' are certainly among Australia's best kept secrets.
