Was thrilled with Samantha as she managed to get 2 cabins next door to each other & exactly what we needed. P&O & a travel agency had both said there was no room. Very, very impressed & very grateful."

Elcho Island, located in the Arafura Sea off the coast of NE Arnhem Land in Australia’s Northern Territory, is a traditional Aboriginal community with restricted access and total alcohol restrictions. With its typical tropical weather, the best time to visit is from April to October, but magnificent sunsets are a feature all year round. The island is blessed with rugged yet beautiful tropical landscapes of stunning beaches, aqua seas, as well as mangroves that are home to numerous mud crabs and barramundi. The reefs full of fish, oysters and crayfish, cycad forests, unique wildlife, and rare brightly coloured ochre cliffs all add to the island’s appeal.

Elcho island is the birthplace of world famous blind singer, the late Dr Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu, the winner of numerous ARIA awards, and this has sparked a surge of interest in this remote community all the way to Europe. Dr G. Yunpingu is remembered today as one of the most important figures in Australian music history, blind from birth and emerging from the remote Galiwin’ku community on Elcho Island off the coast of Arnhem Land to sell over half a million copies of his albums across the world, singing in his native Yolngu language.

Galiwin'ku, located near the island's southern tip, is the main community on the island. The people of Galiwin'ku, approximately 2,000 residents, retain their traditions and culture. The Art and Craft Centre at Elcho Island promotes the works of more than 200 artists so that their distinctive, traditional and authentic works are exhibited both nationally and internationally. Home to the Yolngu people and their rich and beguiling culture as depicted by the Chooky Dancers, Elcho Island was also the inspiration for the song ‘My Island Home’ that was performed by Christine Anu at the closing ceremony of the Sydney Olympic Games.
