Featured Cruiseline - P&O Cruises

P&O CRUISES

A descendant of the world's first passenger line, British-owned P&O Cruises Australia operates four cruise ships out of Australian and New Zealand ports. Their presence is the backbone of a fast-growing interest in cruising in Australia. All four vessels have come from overseas and recently been extensively refurbished and staffed by friendly international crews. The line offers budget value, and has won plaudits for its family-friendly atmosphere. Favourites are short comedy, lifestyle food and wine cruises.

P&O Australia attracts active and often boisterous Aussie crowds. Onboard activities run day and night, too extensive to list: it's happening all the time. Night-time shows and shore excursions are all available. Food choices include formal dining rooms, Lido buffets and alternative dining steakhouses (for an added fee). Dining reservations are optional. The food gets generally favourable ratings from the Aussie crowd. Children's clubs are staffed by qualified teachers and childcare workers.

Pacific Jewel
Pacific Jewel, extensively refurbished late 2009, has a distinctive all-white curved forwards superstructure inspired by the dolphin. Enjoy a top-class performance in the two-story Marquee Theatre. The spacious domed entertainment centre features great live entertainment, comedy nights and jazz events. Pacific Jewel has received good reviews for crew, service, food and entertainment.

Four restaurants and a café on the Lido Deck serve casual meals and grills, and at night less formal dining with pasta, steaks, salads and desserts – though you might dress up for the Salt Grill. Themed bars and lounges are aplenty. This ship has its own chocolate café on board. The cafe serves up chocolate ravioli, warm chocolate fondant, Belgium waffles and a range of cookies and chocolate cake. Enjoy while on the Internet.

By day guests can join in a variety of organised activities. The top sun deck is now an adults-only Oasis spa area complete with wicker beds, lounges, ottomans and a new whirlpool. Under the sun on the upper decks is the ocean-view Aqua Health, Spa and Fitness centre that spans two decks and 1,300 square meters. It features 11 ocean view treatment rooms, a salon, fitness centre and thermal suite. The Children's Centres that cater for ages 3 to 10 years is situated at the rear of the top deck. HQ and HQ+ are hangouts for 11 to 17 year olds.

Pacific Dawn
Pacific Dawn, currently undergoing another large refurbishment and due back in service in May 2012, has a distinctive all-white curved forwards superstructure inspired by the dolphin. Enjoy a top-class performance in the two-story Show Lounge. The spacious domed entertainment centre features great live entertainment, comedy nights and jazz events. The crew, service, food and entertainment receive strong reviews from guests.

New interconnecting family cabins and a giant entertainment screen are predicted to be winners with passengers. What’s more, 50 suites and mini-suites will receive new furnishings and carpets; the Bengal Bar will be transformed into the Orient Pub, with sporting memorabilia, Chesterfield lounges and a wide range of draft beers and ciders; and Baccus Bar will be transformed into Mix Cocktail Bar (already established on Pacific Pearl and Pacific Jewel).

The show lounge, buffet and Pan-Asian restaurant ‘La Luna‘ will also get some shine, but it is the new state-of-the-art LED Big Screen on deck that is expected to bring on the smiles with outdoor movies.

Pacific Pearl
Pacific Pearl arrived from the UK for her latest refurbishment in late 2010. In the growing Australian market the standard of cuisine, restaurants, public spaces and leisure activities maintains its excellence, in keeping with her sister ships Pacific Jewel and Pacific Dawn. She is ideally suited to young couples, singles of all ages and families, with plenty of open deck space, two large pools, wading pool, and extensive child and teenager facilities including indoor/outdoor play areas located aft. Pacific Pearl features a distinctive forward domed and curved observation lounge offering spectacular views. The crew, service, food and entertainment receive strong reviews from guests.

All cabins are spacious and well sound-proofed, with twin beds mostly convertible to queen size, and some with additional upper berths and rollaway beds for small children. Décor is neat and attractive. About three-quarters of the cabins are outside cabins having a large window (or porthole in the case of a few). Eight cabins are wheelchair accessible. Cots are available for children under three years. Décor is neat and attractive.
