P&O Cruises UK 2019-2020
Founded 1837, the oldest cruise line in the world, P&O Cruises (a Carnival subsidiary) is based in Southampton, England. The line’s six vessels provide all the trimmings that British passengers have come to expect. Most cruises depart from Southampton with some winter cruises from Barbados in the Caribbean. Most itineraries are of 14 nights, though cruises range from two nights to three months...read more In January each year Arcadia embarks on a 99-night grand cruise that head west from Southampton via Panama, Australia’s east coast, and Suez. Ventura, Arcadia and Oceana are contemporary and innovative, and focus on the first-time younger crowd. Aurora offers a more traditional cruise experience. Arcadia (and Aurora from April 2019) is a child-free ship. Currently Aurora, Azura, Oceana, Ventura and Britannia have family programs and child-friendly areas. P&O, with its non-glitzy British décor and cuisine, specialises in theme cruises, and targets British travellers.
P&O ships offer an expanding range of destinations: 270 ports in 90 countries. Passengers cruising on Ventura, Arcadia and Oceana can elect for traditional set seating or choose where to eat and when. Aurora offers set seating. Aurora and Oceana also have two speciality restaurants each. As the ships sail from the U.K. for much of the year, the weather can be tricky. Ventura, Aurora and Arcadia each have a swimming pool with a sliding glass roof. The pools on Oceana are open to the elements. The ships are known for carrying ballroom instructors. The fleet flies the British flag, but ships are registered in Bermuda to allow for weddings at sea. The passenger mix varies with the ship and length of cruise: but all are British. P&O Cruises won Best Ocean Cruise Line in The Times and The Sunday Times Travel Awards (2016), with a special mention for Britannia.

We use & recommend Viator.com otherwise search online & call us if you need help. Or just rent a taxi/pushbikes/tour/charter from the wharf when you berth, often the best value but be among the first ashore!
Keep in mind that if you go it alone and something happens like the taxi/bus breaks down and you end up being late back to the ship it will not wait for you unless it is advised. On the other hand if it is a ship-booked tour there are no problems as they are in contact with the tour companies.
