Njari Island is in the Solomon Island archipelago, to the east of Papua New Guinea. It is a small uninhabited 400m long teardrop that extends along shallow shoals to adjacent small islands. Gizo is the capital of the Western Province in the Solomon Islands, situated on Ghizo Island, approximately 380 km WNW of the capital Honiara, and is the second largest town in the country. According to local stories the area had a history of head-hunting, so nearby tribes took the unusual step of joining together to obliterate the Gizo tribe. The Trobriand Islands (aka the Kiriwina Islands) are an archipelago of coral atolls off the E coast of Papua New Guinea in Milne Bay Province. Most of the 12,000 indigenous inhabitants live on the main island Kiriwina, the location of the government station, Losuia. Other major islands are Kaileuna, Vakuta, and Kitava. Tufi is a small village in the Oro Province on the NE coast of Papua New Guinea on the Bird’s Tail Peninsula, overlooking the Coral Sea.
