West Point Island is one of the Falkland Islands lying west of West Falkland. Once a popular site for slaughtering seals, it is now owned by the Napier family and run as a sheep farm and tourist attraction. New Island is one of the southwesterly island of the Falklands, and the most remote of all the inhabited islands in the archipelago. Saunders Island, NW of West Falkland, is still run as a sheep farm. Saunders Island Settlement, with one listed building known as Stone House, lies on the east coast. Carcass Island is the largest of the West Point Island Group of the Falkland Islands. In its 100 plus years of habitation it has had three environmentally conscious owners, and the subsequent absence of cats and rats has made the luxuriant, well established hedges and trees an attractive home to a wide variety of birdlife. Port Stanley is the capital and only town in the Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas). It is located on the isle of East Falkland, on a north-facing slope, south of Stanley Harbour, in one of the wettest parts of the islands. Stromness, considered to be part of ‘Undiscovered Scotland’, stretches for over one and a half kilometres along the shore of Hamnavoe, an inlet of Scapa Flow in the SW of Mainland in the Orkney Islands. Puerto Williams is a Chilean port and naval base located on Isla Navarino facing the Beagle Channel. It lies 46 km E of Ushuaia on the opposite N side of the Chanel. With a population of a little over 2,000, including both naval personnel and civilians, Puerto Williams claims to be the southernmost city in the world (based on definition of ‘city’; its population is 2900).
