Life aboard Silver Muse
Silver Muse sails from Sydney and Auckland from December 2019 through March 2020, mostly around New Zealand, also to Pacific islands. Enjoy the super luxury of this new vessel. Meanwhile, during January and February 2019 sail from Sydney to Melbourne, Tasmania and New Zealand. Silver Muse then heads west to Fremantle and north to Indonesia, reaching Japan by April 2019. From May to September 2019 she sails between Seward (for Anchorage) and Vancouver, along the Alaskan fjord-lined coast. Most cruises are around one to two weeks. These itineraries visit a port a day, arriving at 8 am and usually departing late, to allow for longer on-shore tours. At some key ports she will stay overnight. In October Muse sails around Japan and then heads south: embark at Singapore for the 18-night cruise to Sydney in November/December. Plan ahead for March 2020, as the 18-night cruise Sydney to Singapore offers an interesting itinerary. Check cruises for special features, such as the provision of gentlemen hosts, Bridge sessions and lectures, and L’école des Chefs.

Silver Muse is the largest of the Silversea fleet at 40,700 gross tons, with a capacity of 596 passengers, yet the uncrowded feel of personalised service is retained. The vessel has a high space-to-guest ratio. What can you expect onboard? Butler service, casual attire and open-seated dining, genuine hospitality, and all-inclusive service are some of the pleasures you can expect. On shore your fare includes hosted adventures lead by destination experts. Your fellow guests will be discerning, well-travelled couples (mostly over 50) who prefer a small ship setting, gourmet food, fine service and elegant surrounds. The ship will cater to your pampering, fitness, shopping, and contact-with-the-outside-world needs. Attention to detail on Silver Muse is impeccable.

Accommodation
There are eight levels of staterooms on this all-suite ship, and no inside cabins. Every room is luxurious, with a veranda, extra features increasing with the size of the suite. The large number of suites are Classic, Superior, and Deluxe Veranda, ranging from 32 to 36 sq.m. (including veranda). Floor-to-ceiling glass doors open to a wide view of the ocean, which you can view from your open-air chairs. There’s a bar fridge, writing desk, table and chair, sofa, and plenty of mirrors and storage space. A third guest is catered for across all levels, of 76 of the staterooms.

The largest suites are Silver (34), Royal (2), Grand (4) and Owner’s (4), all of which have spacious entertainment areas, the latter having two bathrooms each with a bath. Royal and Grand Suites have forward and side views, and the Owner’s Suites are mid-ships. Each of these largest suites can be configured for two to six guests. In all there are 31 pairs of connecting staterooms, allowing accommodation for families of up to six. Three cabins on the lowest deck cater for wheelchair access and amenities, with configurations for two to five guests, and are close to elevators.

Food and Dining
There are eight dining venues, the two larger ones being Indochine for pan_Asian, and Allantide for steak and seafood, both on the lowest deck. Alongside these are two small private venues, Kaiseki (US$60 pp by reservation) and La Grande Dame by Relais & Châteaux. On the top pool and open-air decks are Spaccanapoli for all-day pizza, and Hot Rocks grill. The latter serves daytime rotisserie and salad and burgers; at night it morphs into cook-yourself hot stone cooking. Nearby is an all-day pool grill. On deck 7 is Silver Note, serving small plate tapas-style food alongside evening music and dance. Overlooking the stern is La Terrazza (Italian).

There’s a bar on most decks. Relax in Panorama Lounge and Bar overlooking the wake on deck 9, and for a forward view top deck there’s the Observation Lounge. The spread of smaller dining and bar venues results in an un-crowded country-club atmosphere, though more sophisticated. The furnishings absolutely complement the cuisine. Quietly tucked away is Connoisseur’s Corner next to the Conference Room and Library, aft on deck 8.

Entertainment
The Theatre is small (seating around 130), presenting live music, cabaret, shows and local entertainers. In the evenings many will fill the Panorama Lounge and Main Bar for drinks before and after their meal. Restaurant 8 offers a late-night menu, so dine to the accompaniment of piano, jazz, and of course between courses ply the dance floor. Find solitude during the day in the Library. By day select from lectures, language lessons, dance classes, bridge, and ever-popular Trivia. For quiet time retire to the library, the small casino, or the Internet corner.

Destination-focused enrichment lectures are a hallmark of the luxury lines. For health and fitness there are the gymnasium, fitness classes, and spa that offers are variety of treatments, and thermal suite. On the upper decks are a pool, whirlpool and ample deck chair space. Fares are inclusive of gratuities. This is not a ship with programs for children, yet there is a children’s room and children’s outdoor area. And there are some great children’s choices on the menus.
